Two Taliban members accused of raping daughter of a former soldier in Takhar

Local sources in northeastern Takhar province claim that two Taliban members have raped the 25-year-old woman.

The victim has who been reported to be severely wounded is daughter of a former soldier, Amir Mohammad Shah, in Khalian village of Chah-ab district in the early hours of last Thursday. Amir Mohammad Shah, was killed by the Taliban two months before the fall of Kabul.

A source familiar with the situation said the woman has suffered sever bleeding and has been hospitalised.

The alleged perpetrators, identified as “Momen” and “Sayed Omar,” are reportedly under the support of Moulvi Hijrat, the head of Taliban’s Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice Directorate in Takhar.

Local Taliban officials are yet to comment on this incident.

Munisa Mubariz, women’s rights activist and a resident of Takhar province, told KabulNow that the people who raped the woman were released after being arrested. Ms. Mubarez added that the family of the victim and the local people who helped her to the hospital and filed a lawsuit have been threatened by the Taliban.

This is not the first time that Taliban members have been accused of sexual assault. Last year, two members of the group rapped a woman and her two daughters aged 12 and 14 in Sar-e-pul province.
