Ex-Taliban district police chief arrested after deportation from Türkiye

Local sources in Panjshir province confirmed to KabulNow that the Taliban intelligence agents have arrested the group’s former police chief of Panshir’s Rukha district, Rohullah Amin, in the western Nimruz province.

He had fled to Türkiye after his removal as the district’s chief but was deported back to Afghanistan recently.

Rohullah Amin is an original resident of Panjshir’s Dara district and a close commander to Mawlawi Qudratullah, former Taliban governor of the northeastern province.

He was among several commanders loyal to the ex-Taliban governor who were ousted from their posts shortly after the removal of the governor nearly five months ago, sources detailed.

The Taliban intelligence agency has reportedly arrested Rohullah Amin on charges of keeping weapons and embezzling from expenditures of the Taliban forces in Rukha district.

According to these sources, once the Taliban’s army units had mistakenly beaten and arrested him last year for having weapons but released him after realizing that he was the group’s district police chief.
