Taliban flog two women and a man in Daikundi

The Taliban in Nawamish district of Afghanistan’s central Daikundi province have flogged two women and a man in public on charges of having “forbidden affairs” on Tuesday afternoon, a local source confirmed to KabulNow.

Accused of running away, they were arrested last week.

One of the women received 25 lashes and is to remain in prison for five months, the other 39 lashes and the man 25 lashes.

Five men and a woman were publicly flogged in the neighbouring Ghor province in the same day on charges of “engaging in prohibited acts, moral corruption and drinking alcohol.”

Since returning to power in August 2021, the Taliban has made public floggings, usually carried in front of a large crowd, a key part of its penal practice.
