Human Rights Watch (HRW) has called for the immediate release of Mohammadyar Majrooh, a journalist, detained by the Taliban on Thursday.

Fereshta Abbasi, Afghanistan Researcher at HRW, said “The Taliban need to stop the arbitrary detention of journalists in Afghanistan and release Mohammadyar Majrooh immediately.”

According to Afghanistan Journalists Centre (AFJC) said Majrooh, a reporter for Tolo News, was arrested by Taliban intelligence agents in the southern city of Kandahar on Thursday.

“AFJC calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Mohammadyar Majrooh, a TOLO News reporter that was arrested in Kandahar as part of the ongoing crackdown on media in Afghanistan,” the Afghan media advocate said.
