Russian special envoy for Afghanistan meets Hina Rabbani Khar to discuss regional security

Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, met with Hina Rabbani Khar, Pakistan’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on Wednesday, to discuss Afghanistan and regional peace and security issues.

According to a Pakistan foreign ministry statement, while underscoring that a peaceful neighbourhood remained a strategic imperative for Pakistan, Rabbani Khar stressed that Afghanistan, with its location as a bridge between Central and South Asia, was central to achieving the full potential of socio-economic development and regional connectivity. She also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to work with other regional countries towards this end.

This is after Kabulov met with Mohammad Sadiq Khan, Pakistan’s special representative for Afghanistan affairs. Kabulov had additionally traveled to Kabul a while ago to discuss the relationship between this country and the Taliban group.

Russia and Pakistan have close relations with the Taliban and kept their embassies open in Kabul after the group’s takeover of the country.
