The Taliban publicly lashed 22 people, including three women, at a stadium in Sheberghan, the capital city of the northern Jowzjan province. Each of them received from 30 to 50 lashes on charges of robbery, adultery, elopement, and drug trade by Taliban courts.
The public lashing was carried out today, December 18, at Marshal Dostum Stadium in Sheberghan city, a source told Kabul Now. The Taliban did not allow spectators to take footage of the public lashing, the source added.
The Taliban restoration of public lashing has drawn international condemnations with many organizations describing it as “corporal punishments”. The United Nations, in particular, has described it again human values.
Issuing a statement on Friday, December 16, UN experts expressed deep grievances about the resume of public execution and flogging in Afghanistan.
They called on the Taliban authorities to halt immediately all forms of torturous, cruel, degrading forms of punishments.
