US Special Envoy for Women and Human Rights in Afghanistan, Rina Amiri says that the policies by the Taliban will have negative repercussions far beyond the borders of Afghanistan.
Rina Amiri via a tweet on Friday, December 09, wrote that the Taliban returned to the brutality of the 1990s even after pledging not to repeat their past ‘mistakes’.
In another tweeter thread, Rina Amiri wrote that she also met with the foreign ministers of Indonesia and Pakistan in Bali, Indonesia.
She added that she is trying to expand the group of leaders advocating the rights of Afghan women and girls.
Since the Taliban’s return to power, Afghan girls and women have been deprived of their basic rights and the group has imposed severe restrictions on women and girls.
Currently, girls above the 6th grade are not allowed to go to school, and female employees can no longer work in government offices.
These restrictions have forced women to start protest rallies but the group’s de-facto regime, however, has violently dispersed these protests in different parts of the country. In recent weeks, several women protesters and activists have been arrested and their whereabouts are not clear.
