Taliban Orders Councilors in Balkh to List Former Security Forces

Sources in Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital city of the northern Balkh province, confirmed to Kabul Now that the Taliban intelligence agency has ordered local councilors to provide lists of former security forces for the agency.

In Mazar-e-Sharif, county councilors have been gathering lists of those who either worked as civil servants or security forces for the previous government for three days now, at least four sources confirmed to Kabul Now on Monday, December 05.

Meanwhile, former security forces are concerned about their safety and security.

Most of them cannot afford to leave Afghanistan and live with the fear of reprisal acts by the ruling Taliban.

Contrary to the general amnesty by the Taliban leader, the Taliban fighters have arrested, tortured, and killed many former security forces since their return to power in August 2021.

In addition to facing reprisals, former Afghan defense and security forces are also suffering unemployment and harsh economic situation since they cannot work even if they have the opportunity to do business.
