Taliban declare ceasefire in Badghis

Mediated by tribal elders, the Taliban have declared a ceasefire in Badghis, a local official and tribal elders confirmed today, July 15.

Hessamuddin Shams, the governor for Badghis, said the Taliban announced a ceasefire around 12:00 PM today, July 15 in the province but he stressed the group to abide by their commitment.

Abdul Aziz Beig, head of Badghis Provincial Council, told Kabul Now, the Taliban fighters have evacuated Qala e Naw, provincial capital for Badghis, though it is not clear what condition they have set for the ceasefire yet.

According to a number of tribal elders, the ceasefire would remain in place until the third day of Eid.

The Taliban, however, has not commented on the ceasefire in Badghis.

Located in the western part of the country, Badghis is an insecure province where the Taliban control six districts of the province.
