Local journalist shot dead in crossfire

Hafizullah Haqparast, a local journalist in Logar province, was shot dead in crossfire between the Afghan security forces and the Taliban militants in Pul-e-Alam, capital city of the province, a local official confirmed.

The incident took place today, Wednesday, June 09, around 11:00 AM in Kalangar area of the provincial center, said Didar Lung, spokesperson for Logar governor.

He added that investigation is underway to find whether the local journalist was killed by shooting of security forces or that of the Taliban.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family members have claimed that Mr. Haqparast was shot dead by Afghan defense and security forces.

The journalist had previously worked for two local radio stations, Paigham National Radio and Paiwand National Radio, but he was busy working on farmland when shot dead in the area.

Logar is located to the south of the capital Kabul where the Taliban operate in swaths of territories, inter alia in some parts of it capital city.

There has been a dramatic rise in casualty of Afghan journalists in recent months. Most of the Afghan journalists have been killed in targeted killings though.
