army helicopter makes emergency landing in Helmand

Taliban claim downing army helicopter in Helmand

The Taliban militants claim that they have shot down an Afghan army black hawk helicopter in Washir district of the southern Helmand province.

The helicopter was shot down late Wednesday night, March 31, in an area between Koki and Taminan village, the militant group said in a statement.

Four army forces, including a commander named Mohammad Wali Haqmal, were killed and the crew members were wounded, the group claim.

According to the statement, a clash erupted between the two sides when the Taliban fighters tried to prevent government forces from establishing military bases in the area.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD), however, said in a statement that the army helicopter made an emergency landing in the area at 06:35 PM on Wednesday night, March 31, in Nahri Saraj district of the province.

No one was harmed in this emergency landing, the MoD said.
