Five Afghan journalists win courage award of the year

Five Afghan journalists won the courage award of Afghanistan’s Free Speech House. The award was announced on Saturday, April 17, in the capital Kabul.

Anisa Shaheed, TOLOnews reporter, was selected as the first winner of the courage award of Afghanistan’s Free Speech House of the year, which was announced on Saturday, April 17, in the capital Kabul. She was honored as Free Speech Icon of the year.

Esmatullah Soroush, Etilaat-e-Roz reporter, was selected as the second winner of the courage award of Afghanistan’s Free Speech House.

Some 1,700 journalists competed to win this award but 107 candidates made their way for the second round of competition followed by an assessment conducted by a panel of judges. Five Afghan journalists were chosen as the winners whose commitments for free speech and work quality were honored.

Karim Amin, the TOLOnews reporter, was selected as the third winner of the award, followed by Abdul Raqib Sael, and Rahim Gul Sarawan, the two journalists who were awarded as the fourth and fifth winners.

The journalist community is under attack in Afghanistan.

Support Independent Journalism in Afghanistan

In Afghanistan, where censorship and repression keep shrinking the space for free media, Etilaatroz/KabulNow continues to report independently so the public can stay informed. We are not affiliated with any political power. We write only for the people.

Your support helps us sustain independent journalism, publish accurate and fair reporting, expose corruption, and amplify the voices of those who are silenced. Our journalists work in difficult, and at times dangerous, conditions to ensure that the lives, suffering, and struggles of ordinary people are not erased or forgotten.

Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a real difference. And if you cannot donate, sharing this page and encouraging others to support is a meaningful way to help.
