KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Afghanistan Freedom Front and Afghanistan United Front, two armed groups opposed to the Taliban, claim to have killed four Taliban members and wounded two others in separate attacks in three provinces over the past three days.
In a post on X, the AFF said that its freedom fighters killed two Taliban members and wounded two others in the Sara-e-Shamali area of Kabul on Wednesday.
The Afghanistan United Front said it killed one Taliban member in Tagab district of northeastern Badakhshan province on Tuesday night and another in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, on Thursday.
Taliban authorities have not commented on the claims.
The two fronts are among several armed groups that formed in the years after the Taliban returned to power in August 2021 following the withdrawal of U.S.-led foreign forces. They continue to carry out guerrilla-style attacks targeting Taliban members, positions, checkpoints and vehicles.
The Taliban generally downplay the presence and activities of armed opposition groups, claiming that none remain active, and refrain from commenting on their attacks.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan continues to document such incidents in its periodic reports to the UN Security Council. In its latest report submitted earlier this week, UNAMA said armed opposition groups claimed responsibility for 88 attacks during a three-month period, of which the mission was able to verify 55.
