Taliban Detain Former Security Officer in Panjshir

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Local sources in Panjshir province say the Taliban have detained a former member of Afghanistan’s security forces in the Dara district.

According to the sources, the former officer, identified as Farid Ahmad, was arrested on Saturday from the Abdullah Khil area of Dara district by Taliban forces.

Sources said Farid Ahmad served as a police officer during the previous government and was stationed in Ghazni province. After the Taliban returned to power, he had been living in Panjshir.

The reason for his arrest remains unclear, and there is no information about his current whereabouts or condition.

This incident is part of a broader pattern. About a month ago, Taliban forces killed a former soldier in Faryab province and detained another in Kabul shortly after their deportation from Iran, according to local sources. The cases underscore ongoing risks faced by former security personnel despite the Taliban’s declared “general amnesty.”

Since regaining control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have repeatedly detained and imprisoned former members of the security forces in Panjshir and other provinces.

The group has also been widely accused of extrajudicial killings and torture of former government officials and security personnel.
