KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – At least two members of a family have been killed after a house wall collapsed due to heavy rainfall in western Afghanistan’s Farah province, local Taliban officials said.
According to Mohammad Sadiq Jihadmal, the Taliban district governor of Farah Rod, the incident occurred on Thursday morning (February 5) in the village of Gorzang.
He said the victims were a father and his daughter. The mother and two other children were injured and have been transferred to a local health center for treatment.
Local authorities said the collapse was caused by rainfall that weakened the structure of the house.
Similar incidents have been reported in other provinces. Five days ago, in southern Kandahar, four members of a family—including an elderly man and three children—were killed when the roof of their house collapsed after heavy rainfall in Daman district. Local sources and Taliban authorities said the building’s poor condition and prolonged rain contributed to the tragedy.
Several other collapses of roofs or walls have also been reported during the current winter season in provinces including Nangarhar and Kunduz.
