Following a shooting near the White House in which an Afghan national critically injured two U.S. National Guard members, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that immigration from “all Third World Countries” to the United States will be suspended.
In a Thanksgiving address, Trump said the measure was aimed at “fixing the U.S. system.” He further pledged to end what he called “millions of illegal admissions” under the Biden administration and stated that immigrants who “undermine domestic tranquility” would face denaturalization.
Trump added that any foreign national who poses a financial burden, a security threat, or is “incompatible with western civilization” would be expelled from the country.
The incident took place on Wednesday night(November 26) when an Afghan citizen, identified as Rahmatullah Lakanwal, allegedly opened fire on two National Guard members near the White House in Washington, severely injuring both.
Early this morning, Trump announced that one of the victims, identified as Sarah Backstorm, had died of her injuries, while the other remains in critical condition.
In the aftermath of the attack, Trump ordered a comprehensive review of the immigration status of all Afghan nationals in the United States. He also directed authorities to re-examine green cards held by Afghans and citizens of several other countries.
The FBI has said it is treating the incident as a potential act of terrorism and has seized Lakanwal’s laptop, mobile phone, iPad, and other election devices as part of the investigation.
