The Taliban’s embassy in Tehran says that 81 Afghan nationals imprisoned in Iran have been transferred to Afghanistan. In a statement issued today (November 24), the embassy said these individuals had been convicted and were serving sentences in Iran.
The Taliban embassy had also announced yesterday that 211 Afghan prisoners were transferred from Iran to Afghanistan.
According to the embassy, a total of 292 prisoners were handed over in these two phases, coming from the provinces of Khorasan Razavi, Kermanm West Azerbaijan, and South Khorasan in Iran.
The embassy stated that the transfer took place under the bilateral agreement on the exchange of convicted persons, in coordination with Iran’s Ministry of Justice and its Prisoner Transfer Committee.
Iran has previously handed over hundreds of Afghan prisoners to the Taliban to serve the remainder of their sentences in prisons under Taliban control.
