KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The body of a young man was discovered in western Farah province on Friday, local sources said, the latest in a series of mysterious killings reported across Afghanistan.
According to the sources, the body was found in the Lash wa Juwayan district and transported to a local hospital shortly after its discovery.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and Taliban authorities have not yet commented.
The incident comes amid a rise in targeted and unexplained killings in Afghanistan. UK-based rights group Rawadari said it documented at least 251 such cases in the past six months, a 30% increase compared with the same period last year.
Many of these killings were allegedly linked to Taliban members or unidentified armed individuals, the organization added. The surge in violence has raised concerns about security, despite the Taliban’s repeated claims of having restored security since returning to power in 2021.
In many previous cases, Taliban authorities have neither confirmed arrests nor shared updates on efforts to identify perpetrators, leaving families and communities without answers.
