KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Taliban have executed two commanders of the National Resistance Front (NRF), an armed anti-Taliban group, in Panjshir province, the NRF has confirmed.
In a statement on Saturday, the NRF identified the men as Hakimullah Khan and Ahmad Ali. They were reportedly executed by firing squad in the Malam-Khak mountains, a remote area of Panjshir.
The NRF accused the Taliban of committing war crimes by killing political prisoners and civilians, stating that these killings would not go unanswered.
Earlier, local sources reported that the two men were arrested last week in Abdullah Khel district and were allegedly tortured for several days before being executed on Saturday.
According to the sources, their bodies remain in the mountains, and the Taliban have not allowed their families to take them for burial.
The Malam-Khak region has seen repeated clashes between the Taliban and armed opposition groups. Three years ago, another senior NRF commander, Malik, was killed there along with dozens of his fighters.
The Taliban have faced repeated accusations of torturing and executing captured fighters and prisoners of war since returning to power in 2021.
