Young Man Shot Dead in Eastern Afghanistan Amid Rise in Mysterious Killings

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A young man was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Kunar province, eastern Afghanistan, as reports of mysterious killings continue to increase across the country.

Local sources told KabulNow that the victim, identified as Taqiuddin Nuristani, was working as a miner in the Chapa Dara district when he was killed on Thursday, May 15.

According to the sources, he was originally from neighboring Nuristan province and had no known disputes or enemies.

The motive for the killing remains unknown, and the attackers have not been identified.

Taliban authorities in Kunar have not yet commented on the incident.

This incident is part of a growing wave of criminal violence and targeted killings across Afghanistan, with similar cases recently reported across multiple provinces in the country.

As such incidents mount, many Afghans are expressing increasing concern over public safety and a deteriorating sense of security, despite Taliban claims of maintaining law and order since regaining power.

Rights groups and activists argue that the Taliban are neglecting their responsibility to ensure security and failing to conduct thorough investigations into such killings.
