Young Men Killed in Taliban Gunfire in Eastern Afghanistan

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Two young men were killed in Taliban gunfire during a dispute in Kunar province, eastern Afghanistan, on Monday, local sources reported.

The incident occurred as two groups of young men were celebrating Eid al-Fitr and became involved in an argument, the sources explained. Taliban members in the area intervened, firing their weapons in an attempt to control the situation, which resulted in the deaths of the two men.

The victims were both from Kunar province, with one reportedly a final-year medical student studying abroad, sources added.

Local Taliban authorities have not yet commented on the incident.

Similar incidents have occurred in the past, with Taliban fighters using guns and force to maintain order and resolve disputes. This has raised growing concerns among citizens of Afghanistan about their safety and security, further exacerbating the challenges they face since the Taliban’s return to power.
