KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Taliban Ministry of Defence has condemned the transfer of helicopters belonging to the former Afghanistan army from Uzbekistan to the United States, calling the move “unacceptable” and demanding their return.
In a statement posted on x on Saturday, Enayatullah Khowarazmi, the Taliban Defence Ministry spokesperson, said the helicopters were the property of the Afghan people and should not have been handed over to the US.
“The fact that these helicopters are being transferred to the United States for any reason is unacceptable to us, because the people of Afghanistan have the right to defend their rights and question such actions,” he said.
The Taliban official urged the US to facilitate the return of the helicopters and deliver them to the regime.
This follows a report by Agence France-Presse (AFP), citing American diplomatic sources, which revealed that Uzbekistan had transferred seven Black Hawk helicopters to the US. These helicopters were initially flown to Uzbekistan in 2021 after the collapse of the former government.
