The Pakistan Interim Foreign Minister, Jalil Abbas Jilani, has said that the Taliban has arrested a number of suspected terrorists in connection with attacks in Pakistan.
Pakistani newspaper DAWN reported on Wednesday that Jilani, in response to a question about cross-border terrorism, said that the Taliban had informed Pakistani authorities about the arrests of some perpetrators of terror attacks in Pakistan.
Taliban officials have not yet commented on the arrests.
Terrorist attacks have surged across Pakistan in recent years, targeting Pakistani security forces and civilians. Pakistan has blamed the Taliban for the escalating terror-related insecurity in Pakistan, mainly for harboring the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Pakistan’s military leadership and former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif have both raised concerns over the availability of “safe havens” and “liberty of action” available to militants in Afghanistan. They have said that there is also involvement of Afghan citizens in terror attacks in Pakistan.
The Taliban have always denied Pakistan’s claims and say that they will not allow any group to use Afghanistan soil against other countries.
