Taliban detains young man from Panjshir in Kabul city

Local sources in Kabul city have reported that the Taliban has arrested a young man from Panjshir province who is a student at Kabul University.

The young man, who has been identified as Mohammad Mehraban Murshid, was arrested on Wednesday evening from the third district of Kabul city.

The motive for his arrest is not yet clear.

According to sources, Murshid’s brother, Shams ul-Rahman Raheeq, was also arrested three months ago by Taliban intelligence agents and is currently in prison.

The Taliban has not yet commented on the arrests of these two brothers.

The arrest is the latest in a series of crackdowns by the Taliban on residents of Panjshir province. Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August 2021, there have been numerous reports of arbitrary arrests, torture, and killings of civilians in the province.

Human rights reports suggest that the Taliban’s widespread retaliation against residents of Panjshir and the violation of gross human rights amount to war crimes
