Renowned poet and writer, Wasef Bakhtari, has died at the age of 80

Afghanistan born poet and writer, Wasef Bakhtari, has died at the age of 80, his family has said.

Bakhtari’s daughter, Manizha Bakhtari, in Facebook post, said that her father died on Wednesday night in California, US, where he had been living for the past two decades.

According to his website, he was born in 1943 in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif.

He read Persian literature at Kabul University and had a postgraduate degree in education from Columbia University.

Bakhtari is reported to have written over 20 books.
