Traffic accident kills 9 and injures 31 in Zabul province

A traffic accident in Qalat city, the capital of southern Zabul province killed at least nine and wounded 31 others when a passenger coach bus collided with a Mazda-type car on the Kabul-Kandahar highway on Thursday.

The head of Zabul Provincial Hospital, Nazir Ahmad Harifal, confirmed the accident and said at least nine individuals including men and women have died and 31 others have sustained injuries.

Harifal said the injured are currently receiving medical treatment at the provincial hospital but he did not provide further details regarding their status or well-being.

The local Taliban officials have not yet commented on the matter.

This incident marks the second deadly traffic accident in Afghanistan in the last 24 hours.

Yesterday, at least 24 people including women and children were killed, and a woman was injured when a passenger van veered off its route and overturned on the main road in Sayyad district of northern Sar-e-Pul province.

Poor road infrastructure, drivers’ negligence, and non-compliance with driving regulations are among the contributing factors to traffic accidents in Afghanistan.
