Local sources in western Herat province have accused Taliban agents of brutally murdering a former intelligence officer in the Farsi district of the province last week.
A close relative of the victim told KabulNow that the man, identified as Jamshid, was a former officer in the National Directorate of Security (NDS), the intelligence agency under the previous government.
The source added that Jamshid was initially detained in Farsi after returning from Iran a month earlier and later killed by the Taliban intelligence agency.
Taliban subjected Jamshid to extreme torture, including breaking his arms and legs, the source lamented.
The body of the man was handed over to his family on Monday.
The motives behind the murder remain unclear.
Taliban officials in the province have not commented so far.
