Taliban and exiled leaders congratulate Erdogan’s victory

The Taliban and opposition figures have congratulated Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his presidential victory. 

In a statement following the Turkish president’s declaration of victory, the Taliban, on behalf of its prime minister, Mullah Hassan Akhund, said: “I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on his victory in the second round of elections and his re-election as the President of Turkey, may Allah Almighty grant more strength, stability and religious service to Turkey which plays a vital role in the region and the world. May the brotherhood and friendship of the nations of Afghanistan and Turkey be eternal. Alhaj Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.”

Hamid Karzai congratulated Erdogan with a wish for his wellbeing.

Ali Maisam Nazary, the National Resistance Front (NRF) said that “Turkiye’s robust democratic processes serve as a shining example for Muslim countries, especially Afghanistan.”

Haji Mohammad Mohaqeq, has been living in exile in Turkey since the Taliban’s return to power, said that he hoped Erdogan’s victory bring further prosperity to the Turkish people and that its democracy remain strong for years to come.

Abdullah Abdullah said that Afghanistan and Turkey were “good friends and historical allies.”
