The Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS) has announced that the winners of the 2022 Avicenna Peace Award are Jewish NGOs which played important roles in the 2021 evacuation process.
The award, which is given annually to individuals or organisations that have made significant contributions to peace and human progress, was launched by AISS in 2018. Past winners include Professor Michael Barry, Rashid Al Ghannouchi, and Afghan Senator Anarkali Kaur Honaryar.
The AISS has not named the NGOs that have won the award, but they will be revealed at the award ceremony on June 26 in London. Dr. Shirin Ebadi, a Nobel Peace Laureate, will also speak at the ceremony as keynote speaker.
The AISS said that the Jewish NGOs were recognised for their “important role in establishing humanitarian corridors for the safe evacuation of those at risk during the 2021 Afghanistan evacuation.”
The Institute added that these works will be recognized alongside other organizations that assisted in the resettlement of Afghan refugees around the world.
The AISS award was launched in 2018 to honour individuals and organisation who further public good, peace and human progress.
