Senior anti-Taliban commander Akmal Ameer killed in Parwan province

Sources confirmed to Kabul Now that Akmal Ameer, a senior commander of the anti-Taliban Afghanistan Freedom Front and former commando, was killed along with seven of his men in a Taliban ambush in Salang district of Parwan province on Monday.

Ameer and his men clashed with the Taliban forces in the border mountains of Parwan and Panjshir provinces before being ambushed by the group as he attempted to retreat to Shutal district of the adjacent Panjshir province with his forces.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Defense also claimed that the group’s forces killed Ameer and seven of his men in an operation on the hideout of the “rebels” in Salang.

The Taliban usually refers to members of its armed opposition groups as “rebels”.

According to the source, 13 Taliban fighters were also killed and three others wounded in the fight against Ameer and his men.

Members of the two armed anti-Taliban militias, Afghanistan Freedom Front and National Resistance Front, are active in parts of the north and north-eastern provinces of Parwan, Panjshir, and Baghlan.
