US Congress set to begin investigation on Biden’s Afghanistan withdrawal

The US Congress’s House Foreign Affairs Committee is set to hold its first hearing as part of its investigation into the US’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021.

According to reports, the committee has invited Allied Airlift 2021 and Task Force Pineapple, who organised evacuation from Afghanistan for people fleeing the country, to provide their testimony on 8 March 2023.

The committee, led by Republicans, hopes to use its power to compel the Biden administration to provide adequate information about the US’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, which the administration had refused to do previously.

According to The Hill, other agencies, including the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), has expressed frustration at the US government lack of cooperation on providing information.
