UNAMA deputy head meets Taliban and Iranian officials in Kabul

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has said that its deputy head, Markus Potzel met with the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, and the Iranian Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, on Tuesday in Kabul.

In his meeting Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, UNAMA said, Markus Potzel, reiterated the UN and international community’s unwavering call for the reopening of school and university doors for Afghan girls and women. He also encouraged the de facto authorities to take further steps to protect the rights of all Afghans, including women, girls, and minorities.

And meeting the Iranian diplomat, according to UNAMA, Markus Potzel, encouraged enhanced and unified regional cooperation to contribute to a stable and peaceful Afghanistan. He also discussed the need for all parties to work together to address the humanitarian crisis in the country.
