Azerbaijan detains three Afghan citizens after entering its territory from Iran

Azerbaijani border officials have said that they have detained three Afghan citizens after they entered the country’s territory illegally from Iran.

According to Trend, a Baku-based news agency, the trio identified as Davud Afshar, Nadir Juma , and Najibulla Khalili were detained by authorities and confirmed to be citizens of Afghanistan after questioning.

Three citizens of Afghanistan have been detained by security forces in Azerbaijan after illegally entering the country’s territory from Iran,” Azerbaijan’s border officials confirmed to Trend, a news agency based in Baku.

According to estimate by the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA), between 2.1 and 2.6 million refugees from Afghanistan live in Iran, some of whom have been trying to get to Europe through Turkey and other routes.
