A local source in the western Herat province confirmed to KabulNow that the Taliban intelligence agents had arrested Mirwais, a former security force, three days earlier and sent his tortured dead body to his family on Saturday.
Mirwais, according to the source, had served the previous government in Shindand district of Herat.
Since regaining power in August 2021, the Taliban has frequently arrested, tortured, and even killed former Afghan security forces, in spite of the general amnesty declared by the group’s leader, Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, shortly after they recaptured Kabul.
In the other latest case, the Taliban killed a former police commander in eastern Afghanistan few days after arresting him on charge of aiding anti-Taliban forces.
