The Taliban in the city of Faizabad, capital of Badakhshan province, has said its forces killed a suicide bomber outside a bank branch.
Ma’zuddin Ahmadi, the head of the group’s Information and Culture in the province, said the bomber wanted to target people at the bank, but was identified and gunned down.
He gave no further details.
According to an eyewitness, the suicide bomber wanted to run away after identification, but he detonated his explosives before the Taliban fighters could reach him.
Three people are reported to have suffered minor injuries as a result.
