Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) has called on the UN and human rights organisations to help free Elaha Delwarzai from Taliban captivity.
The daughter of a former Afghan army general, Elaha Delwarzai revealed in a video message, in August 2022, that she had been arrested at a Taliban checkpoint, raped in prison by Saeed Khosti, a senior Taliban spokesman, and forcibly married to him. She fled to Pakistan after the video message, but was identified in Islamabad and returned to Afghanistan.
The AIHRC, which has been operating from outside Afghanistan since the Taliban’s return to power, in a statement today called on the UN and human rights organisations active in Afghanistan to help free Elaha Delwarzai.
Elaha Delwarzai’s family has recently released a video, expressing concerns about her welfare in Taliban captivity.
