US special envoy for Afghanistan meets Pakistan military chief on Taliban bans

The US Special Representative for Afghanistan, Thomas West, has concluded his two-day trip Pakistan after meeting the country’s Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir and other senior government officials in Islamabad.

In a statement on Tuesday, Thomas West said that in his meetings with the Pakistani officials, they had discussed “the terrorism and security situations” and the “dangerous impact of Taliban edicts on millions of Afghan’s access to vital aid and education.”

The US special envoy said that he had also met Afghan women in Islamabad, urging the international community of prioritise the needs of “women-headed households” in Afghanistan.”

Thomas West is on a seven-day trip to Asia and Europe, seeking to formulate a “unified regional and international response” against the Taliban’s restrictions on women and girls rights.
