EU foreign ministers to discuss Afghanistan

Meeting in Brussels today, the EU foreign ministers are to discuss the situation in Afghanistan as part of their agenda, which includes imposing further sanctions on Tehran for its crackdown of protesters, reports Bloomberg.

The Taliban’s repressive restrictions on women and girls’ rights to education and work have faced widespread condemnations. But the group has shown little sign of willingness to reverse course. A visit last week by the UN deputy chief, Amina Mohammed, and the Executive Director of UN Women, Sima Bahous, failed to gain any concessions.
