A source in the northern Baghlan province reports that the Taliban attack on a base belonging to the National Resistance Front (NRF) members in Banu district of this province left one member killed. The Taliban detained eleven other members of the Front as a result of the attack.
According to the source, the Taliban attacked an NRF base in the Shashband area of Banu district around 1 AM on Monday, December 12.
According to the source, after three hours of fighting, 11 people, including three NRF commanders, were captured and then detained by the Taliban.
The source identified the detained commanders as Sanjar, Nader and Noorzad and said that the detainees were initially transferred to Deh-Salah district and then to Pol-Khomri, the center of Baghlan province.
The Taliban have not commented in this regard as of yet.
NRF (National Resistance Front) is a militia group formed of former security forces under the leadership of Ahmad Massoud, son of the former Jihadi commander Ahmad Shah Massoud. The NRF has challenged the Taliban in deadly battles in several provinces, including the Panjshir, Baghlan, Takhar, and Badakhshan provinces, many times since the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.
Since their return to power, the Taliban have often been accused of detaining and torturing civilians. The group, however, has rejected these accusations.
