Taliban Arrest and Torture 20 Youths in Panjshir

Local sources from Panjshir province report that the Taliban have arrested 20 young men from the Annaba district of this province. These young men are mainly residents of Kalantarkhil and Kar villages of Abdara valley of Annaba district of Panjshir province, in the northeastern part of the country.

Sources have confirmed to Kabul Now on Monday, November 14, that the Taliban called the residents of these two villages to the mosque for a meeting two days ago. The young men were then separated and arrested.

The Taliban took these young men to torture them in their main base, Haji Hamidullah’s place, located in the vicinity of Abdara valley, the source added.

These 20 young men, who appear to have no connections with any political group, are ordinary citizens. They are now detained in containers in cold weather, the source added.

According to the source, among the arrested young men, there are two teachers and three government officials, and the rest are farmers. The Taliban have previously detained and tortured civilians in Panjshir province on the charges of collaborating with the National Resistance Front (NRF) led by Ahmad Masoud. The NRF members claim a presence mainly in Panjshir and several other provinces.
