A source confirmed to Kabul Now that four people, including two instructors of a madrassa, have been “mysteriously” found dead in Khas Kunar district of the eastern Kunar province.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added that the dead bodies were found on Friday night, November 11.
According to the source, the four people were tortured and then shot dead.
Confirming that two of them were teachers at a seminary, the source said that the two others have yet to be identified.
The motivation behind this apparent mass killing is not clear yet.
Local Taliban authorities have not commented regarding it.
Reports indicate an increase in cases of mysterious murders and assassinations of religious scholars, particularly the Salafists, in eastern Afghanistan.
Overall, Afghanistan has seen a dramatic rise in cases of targeted killings of previous security forces, anti-Taliban militia members, and Salafists ever since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021.
