As many as nine passengers were killed and 40 others wounded after a bus crashed into a river in Khinjan district of the northern Baghlan province. This comes hours after another traffic accident that killed three people and wounded seven others in the same province.
The bus which had left Kabul for the northern Jowzjan province veered off the road and crashed into a river in Malkhan area of Khinjan district, a source told Kabul Now.
The incident took place last night around 12:00 AM on Kabul – Baghlan highway road.
Confirming the casualty toll, a source from Pul-e-Khomri Provincial Hospital in Baghlan, said that nine people, including women and children, were killed and 40 others wounded as a result.
Sher Ahmad Burhani, spokesman for Taliban police in Baghlan, has said that the incident happened due to “recklessness” and technical problems with the bus. He, however, stated that eight people were killed and 41 others wounded.
This comes hours after another deadly traffic accident in the same province.
On Saturday, two cars collided with each other around 05:00 PM on the same highway road in Doshi district of Baghlan. The incident left three people dead and seven others wounded.
