Issuing an official announcement on its verified Facebook page, the Afghanistan Embassy in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, said that it is in contact with the Taliban regime in Kabul for facilitating consular services to Afghans in Czech.
Afghanistan’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic is Shahzad Gul Aryobee. He served as Minister of Communication and Information Technology for the previous government which appointed him as Ambassador to the Czech Republic before it collapsed.
“The Afghan embassy in Prague represented its Country and is in contact there with the [Taliban] ruling regime,” the Embassy said in the announcement on Saturday, November 26.
The Embassy has informed Afghanistan citizens that they can visit it during office hours at the local time to obtain consular services.
It is not the only embassy, however, which is in contact with the Taliban authorities in Kabul.
There are multiple ambassadors and diplomats in different countries who were appointed by the previous government and are now in contact with the Taliban authorities.
Most Afghanistan embassies, however, are still operating independently from the Taliban under the three-colored banner of the previous government.
Some embassies in some countries have been already handed over to Taliban-appointed diplomats. No countries have so far officially recognized the Taliban regime. The group returned to power militarily on August 15, 2021, after years of deadly insurgency and peace talks with the United States in Doha, capital of Qatar.
