Unknown gunmen have shot dead a commander of the previous government’s intelligence agency-known as the National Directorate of Security- in Nari district of the eastern Kunar province.
A source, speaking on condition of anonymity, identified the dead intelligence operative as Haji Mohammad Khan. He had served as the commander of 04 unit for the previous government’s intelligence agency, the source added.
The source further noted that the incident took place on Sunday, October 16.
The Taliban local officials have also confirmed the incident.
Meanwhile, a security source said that the former intelligence operative was killed in an armed clash that erupted between him and his paternal cousin over a land dispute.
A large number of members of previous security forces have been killed mysteriously ever since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021. The ruling Taliban have been accused of direct involvement in most of such cases.
