30 Taliban Killed and Wounded in Recent Attacks in Takhar

As many as 16 Taliban forces were killed and 14 others wounded in recent attacks against the ruling group in the northeastern Takhar province.

The National Resistance Front (NRF) has conducted the deadliest attacks in the Warsaj and Dashti Qala districts of the province against the Taliban, as confirmed by the sources.

The Taliban suffered casualties in all these separate attacks over the past three days.

In their latest attack, the NRF fighters ambushed a patrolling convoy of the Taliban on Sunday evening, October 23, in Warsaj district of Takhar. A health official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that eight Taliban members were killed and six others wounded in the attack.

The incident occurred in the Hauz-e-Wighnan area of Warsaj district around 01:30 PM last Sunday.

Local officials of the Taliban confirmed the attack but rejected any casualty on their part.

In the Dashti Qala district of the province, a source confirmed that the NRF forces attacked the Taliban’s police headquarter in the district late on Friday, October 21. The attack started at 11:00 PM and lasted for three hours. One Taliban force was killed, and two others were wounded as a result of the attack, the source added.

The NRF is a militia formed of former security forces under the leadership of Ahmad Masoud, son of the jihadi commander Ahmad Shah Masoud. As yet, it has effectively expanded its areas of operations against the ruling Taliban from Panjshir and Baghlan to Takhar and Badakhshan provinces.

In addition to the NRF attacks, the Taliban have also suffered casualties in two other separate attacks in the same province.

A magnetic-bomb blast targeted a Taliban military vehicle in Taloqan, the capital city of Takhar province, on Saturday, October 22.  The blast killed two Taliban members and wounded three others. The incident occurred at 08:40 PM near a Taliban military base in Taloqan.

The Taliban police in Takhar confirm this incident but reject any casualties.

An explosion hit the Taliban’s police headquarter in the Ishkamish district of Takhar around 04:00 PM on the same day. Five Taliban fighters, including the group’s local commander, Mohammad Sadiq, were killed, and three others were wounded.

Confirming the explosion, the Taliban local officials say that an unexploded mortar shell went off, killing one civilian and five others.
