Khedir district of Daikundi

Taliban took control of two districts in Daikundi

The Taliban has overrun the districts of Khedir and Ashtarlay in the central Daikundi province, local sources confirmed.

An official working at Daikundi police, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said the two districts fell to the Taliban early this morning and late last night.

He said that Nili city, the provincial capital for Daikundi, is on the verge of falling to the militant group.

A government source told Kabul Now that the Taliban have taken Khedir district.

The Taliban has not yet commented on the incident.

Located in the central part of the country, Daikundi is a volatile province where the Taliban controls small swathes of territories and it has been for several months that the militants have intensified their attacks in Patu district.
