At least five civilians were killed after their vehicle hit a roadside bomb planted by the Taliban in Arghistan district of the southern Kandahar province, local security sources said today, July 18.
Jamal Nasser Barakzai, the spokesperson for Kandahar police, confirmed the incident took place on Sunday, July 18, on Arghistan-Kandahar road.
The Taliban militants have started planting bombs on a number of roads and highways in the province, he added.
In the meantime, eight Taliban militants were killed as the result of two roadside bomb explosions in the same district which were planted by the militant themselves.
The Taliban has not yet commented on the incidents.
Located in the southern part of the country, Kandahar is an insecure province where the Taliban militants control swathes of territory including Arghistan.
