Roadside bomb kills five civilians in Kandahar

Five civilians were killed and 18 others wounded after a 304 bus hit a roadside bomb in Maiwand district of the southern Kandahar province, security sources confirmed.

Jamal Nasser Barakzai, spokesperson for Kandahar police, said the incident took place around 9:00 PM last night, June 22, in Gaj Kariz area of the district.

The wounded are already taken to a hospital in Kandahar to receive medical treatment.

Mr. Barakzai blamed the Taliban for planting the bomb.

Roadside bomb blasts is widely used by the militants in targeting government employees and military forces across the country. But the blasts have taken far more civilians lives than inflicting casualties on the targeted groups.

The militant group, however, has not yet commented on the incident.

Kandahar is an insecure province, where the Taliban actively operate in swathes of territories including Maiwand district.
