MoD: 25 Taliban militants killed in Baghlan

At least 25 Taliban militants including Zarqawi, a commander of the group, were killed and 10 others wounded in operations conducted by the Afghan security forces in Baghlan Markazi district of the northern Baghlan province, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said in a statement.

A statement issued by MoD today, May 18, said that the Taliban militants, who had attacked Baghlan Markazi district from four directions, were pushed back by the Afghan defense and security forces.

Many ammunition of the militant group were destroyed in this operation, the statement added.

In the north-eastern Badakhshan province, the Taliban militants attacked Tashkan district on May 17 from different directions but they were also pushed back the Afghan defense and security forces.

The Taliban have suffered casualties as a result of the counter-attacks while the defense and security forces suffered no casualty, said Nek Mohammad Nazari, spokesperson for Badakhshan governor.

The Taliban have not commented regarding the incidents so far.
