A girl student injured in today's blast is being taken to hospital

Blast in western Kabul leaves 30 dead and 52 wounded

A blast that went off near a high school in the western neighborhood of Barchi in the capital Kabul killed 30 people and wounded 52 others, official sources confirmed.

The explosion occurred on Saturday afternoon as the students were leaving the school building, an eyewitness told Kabul Now.

Most of those who are injured are girls, an education official told the media.

Barchi is a predominately Hazara neighborhood that comes under attack by extremist groups. In October last year, at least 30 students were killed and 70 others wounded after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives outside the tuition center in the same area. The Taliban denied involvement in the October attack on the tuition center. Islamic State of Khurasan Province (ISKP) claimed responsibility for it.

The attack comes at a time as the US is leaving the country.

The Taliban militants have denied responsibility for today’s attack.

The death toll is expected to rise.
